But the archer Hou Yi managed to shoot down nine of these suns with his bow and arrow. In return, he received an immortality potion, but his girlfriend Chang Er tasted it without permission and was banished to the moon forever. Only once a year, at the Moon Festival, are the lovers allowed to meet again.
