Forty meters under the river. A visitor looks out of a window of the Baiheliang Museum. The museum is China’s first underwater museum and is located in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River off the coast of the city of Fuling. Inscriptions and 30,000 characters of Chinese poems are engraved on the riverbed. The rocky ridge was flooded in summer and autumn before the construction of the Three Gorges Dam. Every three to five years in winter, when the water level of the Yangtze River dropped, the ridge and its carvings were exposed and visible.
