Putin’s war in Ukraine is also shaking up Germany’s energy supply. A good 50 percent of German gas imports come from Russia. This dependence is soon to come to an end. The German government is planning to rapidly expand wind and solar energy. Although solar energy literally „falls“ from the sky, Germany and the EU are dependent on China to convert it into electricity. The People’s Republic dominates the entire photovoltaic supply chain: from the raw material polysilicon to solar cells and modules. The EU is therefore warning: In case of shortages, China could supply the domestic market first.
