Mercedes-Benz needs battery cells – and lots of them. If all of the Group’s cars are to drive electrically one day, then there must be no shortage of electricity storage units. That should be the case as early as 2025. The company is therefore broadening its procurement, but is by no means doing without Chinese partners, writes Christian Domke Seidel in his analysis. On the contrary, suppliers from China such as CATL are still an integral part of the strategy. To be on the safe side, they are to produce in Europe, as CATL will soon be doing in Hungary.
