China’s food supply is one of the biggest challenges for the political elites. In the past, millions of people suffered from hunger. Feeding the people is one of the basic tasks of the Communist Party. It is not only climate change that threatens harvests (China.Table reported). Soil contamination with heavy metals, plastics or phosphorus is also a major problem. It is mainly caused by humans. Ning Wang shows that China’s authorities have certainly recognized the problem – but their countermeasures leave much to be desired.
