After the US midterm elections, the Republicans can hope for a narrow majority in the House of Representatives. The distribution in the Senate is still open. Quite apart from that, however, it is already clear that Washington’s attitude toward China will continue to harden. US foreign policy in the Indo-Pacific region and in the triangular relationship between the EU, China, and the United States remains uncertain. On Monday, US President Joe Biden will meet President Xi Jinping for the first time.

The „red wave“ failed to materialize for the time being – in the US midterm elections, the Republicans did not achieve the strong results polls had suggested in the run-up. In many states, the count is still ongoing; in the House of Representatives, it looks like a victory for the Grand Old Party (GOP). How the Senate seats will be distributed in the future is still open. Georgia still has a runoff election in early December.
