If everything goes according to Zhang Junjie’s plan (张俊杰), the founder and CEO of Chagee, tea will soon become the new coffee-to-go. The Chinese premium tea chain heralded the next stage of its ambitious growth plan with an IPO in the USA on April 17. Founded in Yunnan in 2017, the company with the Chinese name 霸王茶姬 (Bà Wáng chájī) has become China’s most famous milk tea brand in just a few years – with branches in the country’s best-known sightseeing spots.
