The Belt and Road Initiative wants to become smaller but more refined. Although there are still large-scale projects, the number of small-scale projects in areas such as renewable energy, hydraulic engineering and education is on the rise, as shown by an analysis by the GTAI.

The projects volume of the new Silk Road is declining. Moreover, China is increasingly withdrawing from financing and allowing other donors to take the lead. This is the result of the latest data analysis on Silk Road activities carried out by Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI).
