TSMC Dresden plans take shape

Taiwan’s chip giant TSMC is now almost certain to build a factory in Dresden. The government considers the strategic security of the supply chain to be of enormous value and is offering substantial subsidies. The catch: The technology that Germany is attracting with a lot of money is outdated.

Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturer TSMC is openly discussing its planned investment in Dresden for the first time. The project is making good progress, said Kevin Zhang 張曉強, Senior Vice President for Business Development, in Amsterdam in front of journalists. The final decision will be made in August at a board meeting.
