The Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturer Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) has announced plans for a new USD 100 billion investment in the United States, which includes the construction of additional chip plants. CEO C.C. Wei made the announcement on Monday at a meeting with US President Donald Trump. „We must be able to build the chips and semiconductors that we need right here,“ Trump said after the meeting at the White House. „It’s a matter of national security for us.“ The sum of around USD 100 billion comes on top of previous investment commitments by the Taiwanese company of USD 65 billion.
