The Tibet Initiative Germany accused Chancellor Olaf Scholz of sending a fatal signal to Beijing – that despite the disastrous development of its human rights record, the Chinese government can expect „at best only mild criticism.“ Scholz even did worse than his predecessor Angela Merkel, „who at least always met with victims of Chinese tyranny.“
