Foreign journalists complain of a „rapid decline in press freedom“ in China. Measures against the coronavirus pandemic, restrictions on entry and intimidation have been used deliberately in the past year to restrict the reporting of foreign media. The Foreign Correspondents’ Club in the People’s Republic made the announcement based on 150 responses to a survey of China correspondents in Beijing on Monday. „All arms of state power – including surveillance systems introduced to curb the coronavirus – were used to harass and intimidate journalists, their Chinese colleagues and their interviewees,“ the statement said.
