China finances fewer energy projects abroad

China’s national development banks funded $4.6 billion in overseas energy projects in 2020. That is the lowest funding since 2008, new data from Boston University show. Most of the funding went to the construction of a gas pipeline in Nigeria (US $2.5 billion). In total, projects in eight countries were funded. With Serbia, one European country is represented. Projects worth US $8.1 billion were still funded in 2019.
