A Chinese suspect has been arrested for the murder of two Japanese citizens in Dalian. This was reported by the South China Morning Post. The suspect is believed to have been a business partner of the victims and had previously lived in Japan. Japanese newspapers first reported on the deaths on Tuesday.
According to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian, the crime was the result of a business dispute. The murders were committed on May 23, with the suspect arrested just one day later. The police reported that the victims had been staying in China temporarily.
The Japanese government asked the Chinese government to ensure the safety of Japanese citizens in the region. At the same time, the Kyodo news agency quotes a source from the Japanese government as saying that the reason for the murders was „a grudge over business“ and „not politically motivated or triggered by anti-Japan sentiment.“
