A European interparliamentary group wants to increase pressure on EU governments to treat Taiwan as a separate partner and independent of China – and is finding support. The so-called Formosa Club has been experiencing steady growth since its founding in October 2019, confirms MEP and co-founder Michael Gahler (CDU) China.Table. The goal of the discussion platform is to achieve more cross-border attention for and interest in the topic. Specifically, the Formosa Club demands, for example, that the EU Commission begins negotiating a bilateral investment agreement with Taipei and that Taiwan be able to act as an independent partner in international organizations such as the WHO.
