The British government passed emergency legislation on Saturday to ensure control of Chinese-owned British Steel. The Chinese Jingye Group had acquired British Steel from the British government in 2020 after the company became insolvent. The investor now wanted to shut down the blast furnaces and import steel for further processing, as the operation was no longer profitable.
