Lai Ching-te – also known as William Lai – won the Taiwanese presidential election for the Democratic Progressive Party on 13 January. He will assume office on May 20.

Taiwan’s President-elect Lai Ching-te has filled key positions in his cabinet and has once again expressed his willingness to hold talks with Beijing. However, the People’s Republic does not consider the DPP politician a dialogue partner.
