China’s 31 provinces, directly-administered cities and autonomous regions have set high growth targets of more than five percent for 2021, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reports. Twenty of the 31 regions would even target more than 6.5 percent – including economic hubs such as Shanghai, Beijing, Guangdong and Zhejiang. Hubei and Hainan provinces lead the way with double-digit targets. The SCMP said China will also benefit from the rapid containment of the coronavirus pandemic. The release of the growth targets is seen as a prelude to the National People’s Congress, which starts on March 5.
