US President Joe Biden wants to reduce the US’s dependence on external suppliers in the areas of semiconductors, pharmaceuticals and drug ingredients, high-performance batteries and rare earths. In an executive order signed yesterday, Biden directed federal agencies to examine how dependent the US is on individual countries in the four areas. There should also be reviews of import dependencies in defense, health, information technology, transportation, energy and food production.
