The hero of the animation blockbuster that is currently blowing up the box office in the People’s Republic is a Chinese bad boy. The child demon, who quickly flies into a rage before erupting into flames, is called Ne Zha (哪吒), a name once borrowed from Sanskrit. With his temper on full display, Ne Zha is the opposite of a Walt Disney cartoon character. He is defiant, loves rebellion, fears neither the earth nor the universe thanks to his magic weapons, and is not scared by cruel rulers, sea monsters, dragons, or fiends.
