China is often described as a country of contrasts. In the giant empire, there is a field of tension between tradition andmodernity, city and country, old and young, rich and poor. And yet the Chinese manage to unite seemingly contradictory things into a great whole. In China, opposites are perceived not only as diametrically opposed poles, but also as interrelated forces that do not necessarily fight each other, but in a certain way complement each other. Contradiction therefore does not have to be negative in the first place. From a Chinese perspective, the energetic interplay of the different usually gives rise to something new, entirely in the sense of yin and yang in Chinese philosophy.
