冰袖 - bīngxiù -

Soon it will be the beginning of summer. Makes you think of sun, holidays and – of course – ice sleeves! At least in China. Because there, as is generally known, fair skin that is as protected as possible from the sun is considered the ideal of beauty. The Chinese are correspondingly inventive when it comes to shielding even the last millimeter of their skin from unwanted tanning exposure. Sunshades – like umbrellas, but made of UV-protective material – are part of the basic summer equipment for China’s beauty-conscious. In China they are called „sunshades“ (遮阳伞 zhēyángsǎn).
