Although oil and gas production off the Namibian coast has recently suffered a setback, the country intends to continue its twin-track approach. The first successes can now be reported with hydrogen. One of the most promising hydrogen projects in Namibia is that of the German-Namibian company HyIron, which uses green hydrogen to reduce iron ore into pure iron. The plant is the first of its kind in the world. The BMWK-funded company already has an off-take agreement with the German steel manufacturer Benteler. Production is scheduled to start in March.
