Following the indictment of five members of the climate activist group Last Generation (German: Letzte Generation) on charges of forming a „criminal organization,“ NGO representatives are concerned about the social climate of their work. Many criticize the crackdown by state authorities and polarized language in the election campaign against activists from the climate scene. They warn of a culture war surrounding this issue, of intimidation and a repression of civil society. They believe the new federal government has a duty to defuse the conflict.
