A new type of wall made of stone, carbon fibers and biochar can bind more CO₂ than its production causes, thus contributing to climate action – and this in the construction sector, an economic sector that has been difficult to decarbonize up to now. The development team received the JEC Composites Innovation Award for this innovation at a trade fair for composites in Paris in January. The wall has also recently been nominated for the prestigious Earthshot Prize. This gives the developers the chance to win prize money of one million British pounds. They could make good use of this sum to push ahead with the official approval of the new composite material, because according to the accompanying research, this is currently the biggest hurdle on the way to large-scale use.
