The EU Commission’s concrete proposal for the 2040 climate target is based on the German coalition contract between the CDU/CSU and SPD. This was stated by CDU environmental politician Andreas Jung on Wednesday at an event organized by the Ariadne Project. Jung had been in close contact with Brussels during the coalition negotiations. EU Climate Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra had assured him that there would be a majority in favor of the positions advocated by the German government.
