The Brazilian Senate has approved a bill that massively relaxes the environmental rules in approval procedures for new oil, gas, mining, and agricultural projects, despite harsh criticism from Environment Minister Marina Silva and environmental NGOs. Although the Chamber of Deputies still has to approve the plan, „no resistance is expected in the conservative chamber, which is full of agribusiness supporters,“ writes the Guardian.
