Climate change has resulted in 30 additional hot days worldwide in the last year, according to the latest attribution research by World Weather Attribution, Climate Central and the Red Cross, available to Climate.Table and published today. Compared to a world without climate change, four billion people have experienced at least 30 additional days of extreme heat in the last twelve months. Extreme heat is defined as temperatures higher than 90 percent of historically comparable days in a region. According to the report, climate change has doubled the number of days with extreme heat in 195 countries and territories. Countries need to better prepare for heatwaves and „strengthen early warning systems, develop heat action plans and improve long-term planning for heat in cities,“ says Roop Singh from the Red Cross / Red Crescent Climate Center.
