Several civil society organizations have asked the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights to prepare an expert opinion on the climate crisis. The court is to clarify the extent to which African states are obliged to protect their citizens from the consequences of climate change, work towards reducing emissions, and provide adequate information on the climate crisis.
