At the beginning of 2025, the Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC) will be integrated into the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK). This will strategically expand PIK as part of a „special status.“ In the future, commons within the planetary boundaries will be researched even better at PIK and less researched and forward-looking topics will be strengthened in a targeted manner. Additional capacities are to be built up for the three topics of earth system resilience, machine learning and inequality, and well-being.
