China’s CO2 emissions rose by 0.7 percent in 2024 and the country is at risk of missing a key climate target. The People’s Republic wants to reduce the CO2 intensity of its economy by 18 percent between 2021 and 2025. However, according to new data from the National Bureau of Statistics, CO2 intensity was only reduced by eight percent between 2020 and 2024.
