Fighting in Donbas in February 2024 – forest fires account for 21 percent of the war’s CO₂ emissions

According to a study, the climate damage caused by the war in Ukraine has reached new highs. In the past twelve months, CO₂ emissions have risen by 31% – a total of 230 million tons of CO₂ equivalents have been emitted in the past three years of war as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. This corresponds to the annual emissions of Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia combined.
