The new German government must better coordinate the expansion of renewable energies and grids and ensure affordable prices for companies and consumers. This is the demand of the „Energy Transition Progress Monitor 2025,“ which was compiled by management consultants EY together with the German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW). According to the report, the share of renewable energies in gross electricity consumption in 2024 has risen by two percentage points to 55% compared to the previous year. Photovoltaics (plus 16.9 gigawatts) was the main contributor to this. The expansion of wind energy fell short of the targets. In the heating sector, the share of renewables in 2024 was a good 18%, slightly higher than in the previous year. In the transport sector, the share stagnated at 7%.
