The Finnish coal-fired power plant Salmisaari will officially close on April 1. This means that the share of coal in the country’s electricity generation will fall below one percent. This was announced by the Powering Past Coal Alliance (PPCA), an association of around 180 countries, authorities, organizations and companies that have set themselves the goal of accelerating the transition from coal to renewable energies. Finland – like Germany – is a member of the PPCA.
