Government advisor: How the UK can meet climate targets and reduce energy costs

The UK Climate Change Committee (CCC), which advises the government on climate issues, presented a report on Wednesday on how the country can achieve net zero by 2050 while reducing energy costs and ensuring economic stability. In the seventh carbon budget for the period 2038 to 2042, the CCC recommends an 87 percent reduction in emissions by 2040 compared to 1990 levels. The report shows that emissions have already fallen 53 percent by 2023 – mainly due to the ongoing decarbonization of the electricity sector.
