Indonesia aims to limit emissions from the power sector to 250 million metric tons of CO2 by 2030 under the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) with Western donors. The share of renewables in power generation is to increase to 44 percent. At first, these targets seem more ambitious than Indonesia’s initial agreement with donors. Originally, emissions were to peak at 290 million metric tons of CO2 in 2030, with renewables accounting for 34 percent. However, emissions from captive industrial power plants not connected to the public power grid are not included in the JETP implementation plan released by the Indonesian government on Nov. 1.
