China’s State Council has approved the construction of ten new nuclear reactors. Ten or more new nuclear reactors had already been approved in each of the last three years. A total of 30 new nuclear power plants are currently under construction in the People’s Republic, as reported by the Bloomberg news agency. China currently has 58 nuclear power plants, which account for 4.7 percent of the electricity mix. By comparison, wind, solar and hydroelectric power account for around 31 percent of the electricity mix.
