Lithuania has high hopes for Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz. During his first visit, he assured Lithuania that Germany was aware of its responsibility – and thus consciously set himself apart from his predecessor, Olaf Scholz.

Friedrich Merz was given the big stage during his first visit to Lithuania as German Chancellor. On Vilnius Cathedral Square on Thursday, he assured the country of Germany’s resolute steps towards military defense. „The protection of Vilnius is the protection of Berlin,“ said Merz.
