Because Germany is likely to miss its emissions targets anyway, there is growing support among municipal energy suppliers for not being climate-neutral until 2050 – or even later. But only very few are willing to say this publicly.

It’s not just the political firewall against the AfD that seems to be crumbling. The German climate neutrality target for 2045, which is based on the climate ruling by the Federal Constitutional Court, is also under fire.
