It is time to say goodbye. When Angela Merkel leaves for the EU summit in Brussels tomorrow the leaders of the SPD, the Greens and the FDP in Berlin will start their negotiations on forming the next coalition almost at the same time. And from the looks of things Olaf Scholz & Co don’t want to take too much time over it. So in all likelihood, the German chancellor will travel to Brussels for her last summit – and looking back on the past 16 years people will summarize: She has left her mark on this Europe with her negotiating skills, her decisions, which from some points of view have had far-reaching consequences, and not least with her claim to leadership in the past crises.
