Frans Timmermans is leaving Brussels. Even though there had been speculation about this for months, it was the news of the day in EU circles yesterday. The Commission Vice-President wants to do it again at the national level and become Prime Minister of the Netherlands. Regardless of whether he wins or loses the election, he will probably turn his back on the EU Commission as early as mid-August, when the red-green alliance officially selects its candidate.
