There is „a lot of data protection on paper“ in Europe, says Max Schrems, but „very little on mobile.“ The rules of the GDPR are blithely ignored by digital companies, criticizes the Austrian activist, who has already won two spectacular cases before the European Court of Justice. They have little to fear from the supervisory authorities, he says, because „in practice, one gear rubs off against the other instead of meshing.“ The result, he says, is a „mass breach of law.“ In an interview with my colleague Falk Steiner, Schrems speaks plainly.
