Spain is blocking the notification of the European electoral law that has been agreed by both co-legislators for years. The new electoral law provides for a national blocking clause of between two and five percent in each Member State. Sven Simon (CDU), Chairman of the Constitutional Committee (AFCO): „Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has assured small parties that Spain will refuse notification. That was their condition to support him in the election for head of government.“ Simon was in Madrid on Monday and Tuesday with eight other committee members. The delegation aimed to speak to the responsible justice and interior ministers to get the notification moving. The mission was in vain. Neither minister was willing to meet Simon and the other MPs.
