France’s new Prime Minister Barnier during his first government statement.

Prime Minister Michel Barnier wants to cut public spending and introduce a special tax for large companies and wealthy households. The Commission will formulate its recommendations as part of the excessive deficit procedure in November.

The aim of the new French Prime Minister is to reduce France’s budget deficit to five percent by 2025 and to three percent by 2029. Barnier announced this on Tuesday during his government statement in the French National Assembly.
