Under von der Leyen, NGOs found access to the Commission’s management level more often than under Juncker.

NGOs had more contacts with the Commission and the cabinets during Ursula von der Leyen’s first mandate than under her predecessor Jean-Claude Juncker. In contrast, the number of contacts with companies and business associations plummeted. This is the result of an analysis by Table.Briefings.

During Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s first term in office, representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) were given significantly more access to Commissioners and their cabinet members than before. This gave them the opportunity to influence the legislative proposals of the Fit for 55 strategy in particular.
