In an interview with Table.Briefings, Nicola Procaccini (Fratelli d’Italia), who is considered a confidant of Giorgia Meloni, said: „It is not within the competence of the European Parliament to choose the Commission President. That is a matter for the Council.“ It would be an „overstretching“ of the European treaties if the Parliament were to claim this right for itself.
