Karol Nawrocki, who was supported by the right-wing conservative Law and Justice Party (PiS), may have won the election for Polish president by a narrow margin. This is indicated by interim results from the early morning count. According to the results, the 42-year-old, who has been portraying himself as a Trump supporter, would have 50.7% of the vote. The defeated candidate of the ruling Civic Coalition, Rafal Trzaskowski, would therefore receive 170,000 fewer votes in total. For the second time in Poland’s recent history, the PiS would have succeeded in winning the highest office in the state with a candidate who was largely unknown six months ago. In 2015, it won with Andrzej Duda, who was unknown at the time. The final result is not expected to be known until later on Monday.
