Mercedes boss Ola Källenius wanted to offer electric vehicles everywhere from 2030, wherever the market allows. Now he is promising customers combustion cars well beyond 2030.

Commission President von der Leyen is being pressured by her party family to question the end of the combustion engine in 2035 in the European election campaign. There are also initial movements back towards the combustion engine in the industry and in important export markets.

The EU’s CO2 fleet legislation is coming under pressure. The German CDU and CSU will go into the European elections with the demand to revise the stipulated ban on combustion engines in 2035. This will put pressure on Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who is seeking a second term in office as the lead candidate of the Christian Democratic party family EPP.
