The European Court of Auditors has criticized EU member states for not doing enough to combat marine pollution caused by ships. They do not make sufficient use of the available instruments and have therefore often failed to meet the targets for ship inspections, according to a special report presented on Tuesday. Furthermore, neither the EU Commission nor the countries visited by the Court of Auditors, France and Germany, were able to specify exactly which EU funds they had used to combat marine pollution.
