The eurozone economy emerged from the Covid crisis faster than expected in the spring. The gross domestic product (GDP) rose by 2.2 percent from April to June compared to the previous quarter, as the statistics office Eurostat announced on Tuesday. An earlier estimate had talked of 2.0 percent. At the beginning of the year, the economy had shrunk by 0.3 percent – at the end of 2020 even by 0.4 percent. The race to catch up is also evident in comparison with the previous year. In the spring, GDP climbed by a revised 14.3 percent compared with the second quarter of 2020.
